Kia ora ano,
I did it. I finished that tedious task I was telling you about on Monday. It involved many micro twists and turns, decisions and backtracks and false starts, but in the end, once I decided on a plan, it was actually very simple.
I was lucky enough to have multiple people talk me through various aspects of it to keep me moving in the right direction. I think that if I didnโt have this support, it would have taken me another decade to complete it.
I fear if I was left to my own devices, I would spend my days inhaling chocolate biscuits next to the heater until the worms found their way through the floorboards and came to eat me. Maybe this would not be so bad.
However, I know I have other contributions to make to this world, and Iโm so grateful for the people who hold me to what I am capable of and see what is possible for me. Itโs so easy to forget that we need each other. We do.
Enough about me. I came here to tell you that Iโm ready to play. With you! I have a new programme starting in August. This will be an ongoing programme (without a fixed end date) and it may evolve over time. I know it is going to be all sorts of interesting and delightful and strange. I truly canโt wait.
Itโs called Mischief Makers because Iโm obsessed with making mischief at the moment and I know that the world needs more of it: more disruption, more play, more acts of strangeness AKA art.
All the details are below.
Mischief Makers is an ongoing online group creative mentorship programme led by me, Rata Gordon.
This programme is for artists of all stripes to connect with their creative power, make traction on their creative projects and connect with fellow creative weirdos.
Are you a Mischief Maker? This programme is for you if:
You really want to stay connected to your mischievous & creative life force, but you keep getting side-tracked by
other peopleโs stupid demandslife. You have creative projects (maybe writing, visual or performance art) that you are desperate to be making traction on, but no-one else is holding you accountable for them (so they keep falling by the wayside). You want an easy way to stay in the flow.
Youโre sick of being so serious all the time and are ready to make a commitment to more play (and you know the world needs it).
Youโre craving a community of other mischief makers โ a space where you can keep showing up and be as real, as sensitive and as wayward as you are.

FAQ
What will happen in the live sessions?
It will be a mixture of group mentorship, creative activation practices, and working in real time on the projects that matter to you.
Other people are scary. How will the artist dates work?
Each month you'll be buddied up with another person in the programme, to creatively connect with. You'll be offered guidance about how to structure this.
What's the online forum? Do I have to?
We'll experiment with a Telegram group to start with and see how that goes. We might shift to a different platform in a few months. Participation is encouraged, but totally optional.
I really want to be there, but I don't have the funds ๐
Talk to me! Payment plans and partial scholarships are available. Preference is given to people who belong to historically marginalised groups based on race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality and disability.
But Rata, Iโm not into Zoom. Will this work for me?
Only you can answer that. If possible, it might help to find a fellow mischief maker who wants to do the sessions in the same physical space as you.
